Playlist [0]|
Welcome to teia.cafe!
teia.cafe is a NFT curation, discovery, and showcasing dApp that allows you to collect, organize, and share your favorite digital assets as playlists. View and browse works that you like, create custom playlists which you can mint on-chain using a Tezos wallet. Access your playlists any time you connect your wallet!
π - You must be 18+ to use teia.cafe. teia.cafe serves publically-sourced user-generated content (i.e. public on-chain data), which may include nudity, controversial subjects, profanity and the expression of topics that some may potentially find offensive. (It *is* art, after all.)
π« - Some works may include flashing, flickering, bright lights and sudden sounds that could potentially be problematic for photo and audio sensitive users, so proceed with caution.
By continuing to use the site, you acknowledge the understanding and acknowledgement of these Terms to its fullest extent, and proceed at your own risk.
Announcements
Site has launched! The dApp is currently in beta now so may be a bit unstable. (Currently the site is optimized for desktop Brave/Chrome browsers - though most functionality should still work on mobile.)
- You do not need to be an artist or art collector to use teia.cafe.
- It is not necessary to buy or own any NFTs to create/mint/share your playlists on teia.cafe.
- While getting a crypto wallet is encouraged, it is not required to use teia.cafe.
Curator commissions contracts are here! Earn money from NFT sales by promoting works that you enjoy and want everyone to see. You earn a % of the sale, the artist makes their share, the marketplace gets its cut and so do we! Everyone wins!
How does it work? There are primarily two ways to earn revenue - Gallery Style, and Web3 Style.
Gallery Style
- Use the teia.cafe site itself as a digital gallery - if you sync your wallet to teia.cafe the site will recognize you as the βcurrent curatorβ and the links and QR codes will generate referral links to the purchase page of our site. This mode is designed for the user to share their screens to the public.
- Every time someone makes a sale through that link, you will get a % of the sale as the βcuratorβ through our commissions contract!
- You can use the referral links to share/send the purchase URL to people directly. (Check the "?curatorAddress" in the URL to verify that it's your wallet that is identified as the curator. e.g. "https://www.teia.cafe/KT1RJ6PbjHpwc3M5rw5s2Nbmefwbuwbdxton/838602?curatorAddress=tz1aB6MVSyjHjTB6VnEDjMTQgxRXWjDzGCQm")
- Want to promote a collection of works? This is what teia.cafeβs on-chain playlist (TEIACAFE) tokens are for - it allows you to become a βcuratorβ of a collection of NFTs of your choosing, then collect commissions based on its referral links. (Check the pages at ποΈ and π§‘. Instructions on how to mint a TEIACAFE playlist below.)
Web3 Style
The search function is only capable of using only basic search queries. For best results, stick to single keywords rather than long or complex phrases.
Likewise, some of the query options in the explore menu may not always be stable. If you wait a few minutes and it still does not load, either try another query or reload the page to try again.

How To Use This Site
- The ββπ "Temporal Mode" menu is an important part of the curation algorithm so be sure to choose wisely.
- β (History) will give you results in chronological order, from the very beginning of the first mint date. (Works from Hic et Nunc and Teia.art will occasionally overlap since they use the same contract source.)
- β (Here and Now) will generate more recent and "close" results. This is a more common methodology that people may already be familiar with.
- π (Exploratory) is designed to suggest results that are more "further" away. Since the future isn't something that actually exists (yet), it does this by generating distance values from time and network effects.
The choice above will have effects on other areas of the site, including wallet-based recommendations ("closer" = "intimate", "farther" = "exploratory"), so for the best experience, make sure you have it set to the type that you want at any given time.
teia.cafe's "player" is designed to be a true multi-media player in that it is capable of rendering many different styles and formats (images, audio, video), including niche and esoteric ones (PDFs, code samples, 3D models, Text). People are encouraged to use this site as a music player: You can have the site running in a background tab while you do other things on your phone/computer, in most cases.
Main Page
- Search π or Browse NFTs in the βExploreβ π menu for a list of options to explore. (You can always open up this menu again with the β icon if you need help.)
- The generated list of artworks will be listed in the π menu. The β button will remove artworks from the queue for that session. (This process does not affect blockchain data so its effects are never permanent - only its display for that session.)
- Scrolling or swiping downward past the bottom will pull up the descriptions and details of each work. (See example.)
- Clicking on the artist name (or wallet address if unregistered) will generate a playlist of other works by that artist. Clicking on the individual tag names will also generate a playlist related to those keywords.
- If you have a Tezos wallet, sync your wallet to teia.cafe by clicking on the wallet sync π icon. The π options in the explore menu (π) will pull your owned works from your wallet address.
- After sync, the π queries in π will search on-chain public data related to your wallet to suggest more results for you. (This site does not collect your data - all transactions are done on-chain.)
- Chose a Feed, hit play βΆοΈ and the player will start displaying the results from a queue. You can click the π button to see the playlist of works that was generated for you.
- Use the speed slider [π’ ββOβ π] to adjust its display rate: from slow to fast. Use the player to browser through quickly, or as a passive backdrop in your room or gathering areas! (Current fast: 6s, slow: 900s)
- Set the speed slider to the slowest setting [π’ Oβββ π] to play full-duration of audio and video files. (It will skip files after the timer expires otherwise, which you can use for quick previews.)
- Add works that you like with the heart icon button on the upper left π€ of the player. These works will be saved on your device in the top menu (π§‘). This playlist will be stored in your browser only but can be previewed using the β𧑠Your Favoritesβ option in the π menu.
- When ready, you can click on the 𧑠button in the top menu, which will take you to the Minter page to see, edit, and finalize your current playlist. Fill in the name, description, and upload a cover image for it, edit existing item orders with the "Edit Playlist βοΈ" menu, then hit "Mint Playlist π" to mint it on-chain. The site should prompt your browser to trigger a wallet transaction - after a few minutes, it should show up on the blockchain, with its own sharable link!
- The π icon in the top Menu should now list all of the playlists you have minted in list form.
- The πΌοΈ icon is a simple "gallery mode" that will remove the buttons and sliders for a better viewing experience.
- If you would like to have an alias (a human-readable name) rather than a wallet address to show up on teia.cafe, we suggest setting up a profile at teia.art for the most reliability. (The indexer does pick up profiles from other registration platforms but this site interacts directly with TEIA's API.)
π Individual Works Page
- Clicking on the title of the work (or scanning the QR code) will take you to a token page with a sharable link. This page is designed to be a place where artists and curators can focus their attention on individual works or collections.
- Individual works and teia.cafe playlists each come with a chat/message board section in the π¬ button. Anyone can view, but only owners of 1 edition of the work itself will be able to participate in the discussions themselves. (These messages are intended to be temporary and entertainment purposes only. The room does not interact with the blockchain itself and will be cleared from record eventually - teia.cafe does not store your data.)
- This page is also a place where you can get quick screenshots and displays for individual works in a quasi-customizable way. (Desktop has more flexibility, but it should work for mobile as well.) Scroll down below the bottom (simliar to the main page) to see what options are available.
- The info panel for pages contains two layers - one for the image (β¬οΈβ¬οΈβ¬ οΈβ‘οΈββ), one for the text (scroll/swipe vertically - use the colored areas for more control). Adjust each position and size as necessary.
- When you're ready, click on the πΌοΈ icon to take a screenshot. ([WinKey + Shift + S] for Windows, [Shift + Command 3 or 4] for Apple, usually [volume button + power button ] for mobile.)
- If the work is a collection of multiple works (as is the case with teia.cafe's playlists tokens), the site will create its own playlist and can be viewed in the same way as the main site.
- In the future (Phase 2), this will be the page where you can earn commissions (either as an artist or as a curator) for making a sale through this page. Stay tuned!
π Your Profile Page (Wallet Required)
The Profile Page is where your currently published ("minted") playlists can be found for review. Once minted, playlists are no longer editable, but the burn button (ποΈ(π₯)) will remove the playlist from circulation in cases you don't want/need them anymore. (It was necessary to keep it this way since collaborative agreements require a degree of stability.)
𧑠Minting Page (Wallet Required)
The Minting Page is where your local playlist ("favorites") gets prepared for minting on-chain. Here you can add a name, description, cover image, and make necessary edits to the list as necessary before mint.
Note that on-chain minting is a permanent action, and you will not be able to edit or revise any data or affiliated information within after the fact. So be sure to double-check everything is in order before doing so. (If you need to start over, you can burn the existing copy and re-mint another later, but any data affiliated with the current playlist will be lost.)
ποΈ The Marketplace
The Board is a public space where you can see what other people are publishing on-chain. Note that unless burned, every playlist minted using teia.cafe's contract will also show up here for others to see. (This is a basic beta version - more features to come!)
Our Mission
Our primary missions of teia.art:
- To make digital and crypto-based artworks and art projects accessible, fun, and easy to understand for everyone.
- Empower artists to have more control over their work, both intellectually and financially. (We believe this is good for everyone.)
- Continue to develop and expand the social and curatorial layers of Web3, using art as the means of cultivating meaning, values, and comradery for everyone on-chain and off.
This site is also an experiment in "de-biased" curation - art will always be in the eyes of the beholder, but there are two data points that are fundamentally objective - time and space (ββπ).
After many long discussions and debates about the definition of art, good taste, the meaning of life and so on - the answer we came to: we have no idea what people want. So the primary goal of this site has become to give the power of curation to the people themselves and let them decide. We eventually expect the users themselves to take over, but to kick-start the process tiea.cafe is committed to making the algorithmic recommendations as unbiased as possible, to ensure that the intentionality and authenticity of each artist's expression is preserved to its greatest degree.
Methodologies
The Time Machine (β) is a date randomization algorithm that picks and takes you back to a specific point in time. This method has already been integrated in the main site itself. History is an often neglected data point in tech platforms, which we're hoping to rectify and increase visibility for works that have managed to stand the test of time.
True Random (π) is a complex time-based algorithm that attempts to achieve the "true" randomization effects of interger-based HEN/TEIA numbering systems in a more global way. While there are up-sides to hash-based ID systems, due to its complex nature it makes ordering and sorting more difficult, potentially introducing strong biases in the results. This method is pretty processing-intensive so it may take a little while for results to come back. (But if you think it's worth the wait, let us know.)
The Burn Pile (π₯) actively searches for works that have been "burned" - for whatever reason, people didn't want these works anymore so they were removed from circulation by transferring its ownership to an unowned account. The interesting thing about the blockchain, however, is that these records are still technically there, even when unowned. The Burn Pile is the blockchain's metaphorical landfill, if you will.
Most of the works that can be found in the Burn Pile are ones that the artists themselves burned for various reasons. Maybe they spotted a typo in their description, wanted to replace the original with a revised version, or maybe were having second thoughts about the release itself. Either way, this feed gives a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes of artistic creation that people might find interesting - art history is full of examples of artists destroying their own works, after all.
The Adaptive Color Theme (π) is an experimental feature where the app attempts to adapt its color schemes by sampling the color palettes within each work's display image. Galleries and museums have historically been painted white or mute colors in order to focus the audience's attention to the work itself, but this method goes the other way - it attemps to leverage technology to enhance the visual effects of the work itself. Let us know what you think! (This feature also will work for audio, video, playlists and other formats if there is a preview image uploaded.)
teia.cafe is currently in Phase 1
- Phase 2: Earn commissions on sale through our platform - sales that happen through our platform will split the revenue between you (the curator), the artist, and the marketplace where it is listed - everyone wins! (Coming soon.)
- Phase 3: Access to βpremiumβ features: custom gateways (for better loading times), advanced feeds, subscription services, etc.
Other Notes
- This site is designed to work within 75%-175% zoom levels in most browsers. If the text is too big/small for your taste, try adjusting the zoom on your browser.
- You might have already noticed that the icons on this site are all emojis - renditions may vary from device to device. The idea for this was to try to preserve the familiarity people have with their own device as much as possible.
- The volume slider [πββOβ] may not work for certain mobile devices - but the dApp itself will generally be responsive to the default volume buttons.
- Generally, if the slider is set to other than max, videos will be allowed to loop, but not audio. (Videos are often used as looping visuals, whereas that is usually not the case in audio.)
- Most of the content on teia.cafe is delivered to you "raw", unprocessed, and certifiably organic. (Tezos is known for their "clean NFTs" and artisan hand-coded dApps, after all.) This helps to sustain impartiality while preserving the quality of the works but you may occasionally run into oversized files that take a very long time to load. (Just skip to the next one, in that case.)
- If you would like to see MIDI files become mintable as NFTs and given a second life as a viable media format, make your voice known here!
